Cynthia Kumfer, early childhood education assistant professor at Ivy Tech Community College Northeast, has received a $3,750 grant from the Indiana Campus Compact Faculty Fellows Program.
This is the second year Kumfer has received the grant, which facilitates a partnership with area elementary school programs. This year, Kumfer will work with St. Joseph Catholic School in Fort Wayne. The partnership allows Ivy Tech Northeast early childhood education students to “gain first-hand experience in working with children and families in a developmentally and culturally sensitive way by providing math and science literacy kindergarten readiness activity kits,” according to the grant summary.
The year-long grant provides financial support for a variety of goals, including establishing an early childhood service learning mentorship program that will provide leadership opportunities for Ivy Tech Northeast early childhood education students.
