Ivy Tech Fort Wayne offers free cybersecurity courses amid increases in corporate hacks

Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne is offering a free course this fall addressing the fundamentals of cybersecurity. The course will empower everyone to protect their personal digital presence and also to understand the needs of corporations operating in today’s digital environment. The course is a free, non-credit course meeting on three concurrent Saturdays beginning September 11, 2021.

“Cyber criminals infect millions of systems across the world and when you couple the ransom dollars, and the lost productivity of down-time, it can add up to multi-million-dollar losses for a company,” says Darrel Kesler, dean of the School of Information Technology at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne. “Even here in Northeast Indiana, employers have reported up to thousands of cyber-attacks per day.”

Ivy Tech Community College’s cyber security faculty is dedicated to educating the community about personal and business cyber safety. Beyond this free three-session non-credit course, the School of Information Technology offers an array of degree and certificates that allow students to enter the workforce directly, or transfer to four-years universities for their Bachelor degrees.

Students interested in the free course, they can register at link.ivytech.edu/FWcyber, or contact Lucy La Hurreau, assistant department chair in the School of Information Technology at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne, at llahurreau@ivytech.edu.
