Second Chance expungement event on Aug. 19, cosponsored by Ivy Tech Fort Wayne

The Second Chance Law is a 2013 Indiana law that expunges specified misdemeanor and felony convictions from being accessed by possible employers and landlords. Ivy Tech Fort Wayne is cosponsoring a Second Chance Expungement event on Aug. 19 at 1 p.m., which will be held in-person at St. Mary’s Church.

A criminal history record limits opportunity in housing, education, credit, and career. The program aims to help community members with criminal offenses gain access to employment, housing, and education. According to the Veterans Administration, a criminal history record is the chief cause of veteran homelessness. The Second Chance Expungement program is limited to clients who live in the Allen County, Indiana area. To learn more about the Second Chance Expungement program, residents may dial 211 and ask for information from a trained specialist.

The other event cosponsors are Volunteer Center, Indiana Legal Services, Volunteer Lawyer Program, and Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinics.
