Ivy Tech Fort Wayne’s mascot has been known as “Titan” over the last several years, but that changed Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, at a special event to honor graduate Tony Striverson, who passed away suddenly this year from the rare disease Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Tony graduated from Ivy Tech Fort Wayne in Dec. 2017 with an Associate of General Studies. During his time at Ivy Tech, Tony was employed on campus and participated in multiple student organizations including Campus Activities Board, the Titans soccer club, Student Government Association, TRIO Leadership Council, International Family, and African American Male Initiative. He also graduated from Ivy Tech’s Student Leadership Academy.
Since the Titan mascot identity is always kept confidential, most on campus do not know that Striverson was the first student behind the helmet. He portrayed Titan at the Three Rivers Festival’s Chalk Walk and at multiple events during our College’s mascot inaugural year.
To honor Tony and his engagement on campus, Ivy Tech Fort Wayne’s mascot will be known as “Tony the Titan” from this point forward.
