Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne is partnering with Dr. Harry D. Brickley, Jr. to create a $200,000 endowed scholarship for Wells County residents. Dr. Brickley has provided $100,000 of scholarship money. Ivy Tech Foundation is seeking donations to match $50,000 by May 31, 2019 and $50,000 by May 31, 2020.
“Individuals from Wells County and the surrounding areas are encouraged to help us fund this important endowed scholarship,” says Margaret Sturm, executive director of resource development. “When this scholarship is funded, it will provide $8,000 annually in scholarship funds for Wells County students, improving individual lives and creating a stronger Wells County.”
Dr. Harry Brickley, Jr. has a vested interest in education and Wells County. His father, Dr. Harry Dwight Brickley, grew up on a farm in the area, went to college to become a doctor, moved back to Wells County with his family, and made a positive impact on the community as a physician, president of the school board, and director of the Old First National Bank. Harry’s mother Ina Brickley was also deeply engaged in the community. She served as nursing superintendent of the Wells County Hospital during World War I, influenced the Bluffton chapter of the Girl Scouts, and more.
