This semester, students in Ivy Tech Community College’s Baking and Merchandising class will run a weekly bakery at the Fort Wayne Campus as part of Kelty’s Kafé, beginning Wednesday. Kelty’s Bakery, which served weekly deli lunches in previous semesters, will focus now on baked goods beginning this semester.
Each week, students will make and sell breads, cakes, pies, cookies, and muffins, and the bakery will also offer coffee from Old Crown. In addition to this set menu, each week will feature a specialty item such as biscuits and gravy, soup, cold sandwiches, or a specialty dessert. Each week, a different student will be the bakery’s manager, and they will determine the specifics of the menu.
This first Baking and Merchandising class is an eight-week class, and it will run Kelty’s Bakery from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 6, 13, 20, and 27 and Oct. 4 and 11 in Anthony Commons on the Coliseum Campus (3800 N. Anthony Blvd. in Fort Wayne). The bakery is open to students, employees, and the public.
