Satisfy the sweet tooth with Pop Up Cakery

Four Tuesdays this month, business students are selling baking students’ sweet, yummy cakes.

I hate to break it to you–you missed the first one, but there are still three to go: Mark your calendars for

  • Feb. 14: Pineapple upside down cake
  • Feb. 21: Chocolate cake with French buttercream
  • Feb. 28: Angel food cake

Case Problems in Business students set up the cakery in Crescent Commons (the study space behind the security desk on Coliseum Campus) from 11 a.m. to noon, and cake is $2 a slice.

The cakes come from baking students–they take half their cake home, and the other half goes to the cakery, says Patrick McCormick, department chair for Business Administration and Hospitality Administration. Eventually, he says, he’d like to see the cakery grow. In future semesters, maybe it could become a mobile baking cart or bakery truck. Maybe it could turn into a pantry or a market, selling foods to-go.

But for now, it’s all cake, all the time.
