College to host women, minorities in STEM lecture

WHAT:
Women & Minorities in Information Technology is the first in a series of STEM lectures at Ivy Tech Community College Northeast focused on women and minorities in science, technology, engineering, and math.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women hold just 27 percent of the jobs in information technology and STEM. Women and minorities make up the largest group in colleges and universities today, though they earn just 18 percent of undergraduate degrees.

At the lecture, speakers will discuss how they got involved with their information technology careers and problems they ran into. They will also discuss the importance of industry certification.

The lecture is sponsored by the Information Technology Club, an Ivy Tech Northeast student organization.
