Ivy Tech Northeast is launching an on-campus food pantry on Oct. 25

Ivy Tech Community College Northeast is launching an on-campus food pantry on Oct. 25. The Ivy Tech Community Cupboard will operate at Carroll Hall, 3701 Dean Dr., Tuesdays from 10 a.m.–noon and 3–5 p.m. during fall, spring and summer semesters. Anyone in need can receive food.

Faculty, staff, students and community members are encouraged to donate nonperishable items to the Ivy Tech Community Cupboard at food-collection barrels inside the main entrances of all Ivy Tech Northeast buildings on the Coliseum, North and Public Safety Academy campuses. The placement of food-collection barrels coincides with the Community Harvest Food Bank’s U Can Crush Hunger food drive operating from Oct. 24 until Nov. 4.

Following the U Can Crush Hunger food drive, donations can be delivered to the Student Life office at the Student Life Center, 3701 Dean Dr., Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Online credit or debit card donations are accepted at any time by visiting IvyTech.edu/giving, selecting the Northeast region, and earmarking the donation for the Ivy Tech Community Cupboard. According to the Community Harvest Food Bank, the donation of $1 is the equivalent of providing four pounds of food to individuals in need.

“Providing an on-campus food pantry not only allows us to serve the Ivy Tech Northeast community, but it is strongly in line with the College’s culture of service,” says Director of Student Life Christina O’Brien. “The food pantry will also provide an excellent hands-on learning experience for our students who are supporting the operation.”

O’Brien adds that protein-rich foods are the most in-demand donations, specifically peanut butter, canned meat, canned tuna and soup.
