Beginning Sept. 25, the Therapeutic Massage program at Ivy Tech Community College Northeast will offer a student-run massage clinic, Healthy Essence.
This clinic will give students the chance to both practice massage techniques on paying customers and handle the business side of scheduling appointments and working with a variety of client types. It will also benefit the community.
The new therapeutic massage clinic at Ivy Tech Northeast has four private “rooms,” which are separated by sheets. Clients receive private, one-on-one massages with therapeutic massage students in a dim, relaxing, stress-free environment.
“Massage is known for being extremely beneficial to health and wellness,” says Wendi Anspach, program chair for Therapeutic Massage. “Our student clinic offers a valuable public service and unique experience for a quality massage at a reasonable price. Sessions will provide stress relief and promote general good health and well-being.”
Clients will receive a one-hour therapeutic massage: Students will use techniques based upon their personal education and training. For example, a student who has studied deep tissue massage would be able to work with a client to discuss how a deep tissue massage might better fit the client’s needs.
Healthy Essence is on the Coliseum Campus (3800 N. Anthony Blvd.) in Room CC1783. Clients should enter through Door 30, which faces the corner of North Anthony and Coliseum boulevards. The following session times will be available:
- 5 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Noon, 1:30, 3, and 4:30 p.m. Fridays
- 9:30 and 11 a.m. and 12:30, 2, and 3:30 p.m. Saturdays
Sessions run $25 each or $20 for Ivy Tech Northeast employees and students, those 55 and older, and military personnel. Clients can pay by cash or credit card. Tips will not be accepted, though those who wish to give tips can choose to donate the tip to a charity chosen by the students.
