Voting closed at 5 p.m. yesterday for Show Me the Scholarship!, and after nearly 2,500 votes, Kama Erpelding will receive a $3,000 scholarship.
A nursing major, Kama created a video that was fun and silly, centering its theme around a storytime to “Baby E.”
“One day, she decided that she wanted to do more than just work two jobs for the rest of her life,” she says in the video.
She chose Ivy Tech Northeast because its nursing program is accredited, the price tag is affordable, and she can complete her studies in just two years.
“As a working adult with children who go to school, I vote for KAMA!” commented one voter on the poll. “Working two jobs and having a mortgage/car payments/etc. is challenging. You’ve got this, girl!”
Kama has been taking classes at Ivy Tech Northeast part-time for three years, and the scholarship will let Kama focus more time on her studies and less time on working to pay for school.
“I’ve been working two jobs,” she says. “For me, this is going to be huge so I can cut down on my hours and just do this. I’m paying everything out-of-pocket right now.”
Congrats to Kama!!
How many votes did the others get?
Thanks so much for your comment, Nancy! We were thrilled with how many people came out to support these three students, and the voting was so close up until the last day. However, we won’t be releasing the final tallies.
