Ivy Tech Northeast receives Lincoln Financial Foundation grant for career development

Ivy Tech Community College Northeast has received a $45,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation to support the Employer Student Connection. The initiative, run through Ivy Tech Northeast’s Career Services office, supports career development on campus where students can meet informally with employers. Employers are able to describe the skills they are looking for and discuss the current job market, and the Career Services helps students prepare their resumes.

Last year’s grant was spent largely on networking events. A small portion was also used to purchase shirt-and-tie sets and blouses and tops at a significant discount from a local department store. Many of the male students had never worn a tie before, and the Career Services director provided an impromptu tie tying training before the employer/student meetings.

These efforts have resulted in more students being placed in jobs.

The Lincoln Financial Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Lincoln Financial Group, believes that strong economies begin with strong communities. Its grant is part of Lincoln Financial’s $10 million in charitable contributions to support education, human services, arts and economic/workforce development programs in key cities across the country where the company has a strong business presence.
