Why take summer classes at Ivy Tech Northeast?

Hello Ivy Tech and Fort Wayne community. My name is Nic Madison, and I’m a student intern with the Marketing and Communications office at Ivy Tech Community College Northeast. As a communications major, I worked with the staff here to learn the behind-the-scenes secrets, and I am pleased to be offering up some of my own creativity for the Green Light Blog.

It’s easy for those of us still attending classes in the summer to feel left out from all the sunny opportunities the rest of our community enjoys, but taking summer classes at Ivy Tech makes staying on top of school while enjoying the warm season a breeze. I spoke to some students this week–finals week–to find out, Why did you take classes this summer?

“I live near Ivy Tech, which makes it easier to attend because campuses are everywhere. It’s a beautiful campus, and I love it. I started early, too, and it’s good to be getting classes out of the way before the fall semester starts.” ~ Desiree Toran, Business Administration major

“I like taking summer classes because it takes a load off in the fall. It’s less stressful taking a few classes in the summer than it is taking twice as many late in the fall semester. Plus, you have smaller classes this time of year and can receive more one-on-one attention.” ~David Teeple, Business Administration major

“In the summer the classes are much more fast-paced. I like that because I’d like to get it done quickly. I really want my degree.” ~ Samantha Becker, Health Information Technology major

“Summer classes at Ivy Tech knock-out some of the later credits required in fall and spring semesters. Also, classes aren’t as crowded.” ~Katherine Binkley, Business Administration major
