Ivy Tech Community College Northeast and the North Anthony Corridor Group (or NACG) are co-sponsoring a Story Walk from April 26 to May 3.
In conjunction with Ivy Tech’s Month of the Young Child celebration, the Story Walk will feature a series of laminated signs lining the west side of North Anthony Boulevard between Crescent Avenue and St. Joe River Road. Each sign will feature a different page of a children’s book. As families walk along the route, they can read the book together.
Story Walk is designed to promote family literacy and outdoor exercise.
Nearby businesses will be encouraging families to participate in Story Walk. Curriculum Opportunities and Resources for Educators, or CORE, will give prizes; and the Firefly will be offering specially priced smoothies for participants. green DogGoods will have a watering station and free treats for family pooches on the Story Walk.
The idea for this event comes from the national StoryWalk® Project, which was created in part by the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition; the Kellogg Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vt.; and Anne Ferguson, of Montpelier.
The North Anthony Corridor Group’s mission is to see the North Anthony Corridor—the portion between Crescent Avenue and Coliseum Boulevard—become an attractive, neighborhood friendly destination and marketplace for the community. It aims to become a meeting place and destination for the population of area campuses, including Ivy Tech Northeast. Learn more at northanthonycorridor.org.
