Through its refugee resettlement program, Indiana’s Office of Family & Social Services has awarded the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation a grant for refugees to receive Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, training from Ivy Tech Community College Northeast.

Refugees are eligible to receive funds from this grant if they meet the following requirements:

• Have been in the United States for at least six months but less than five years
• Reside in Northeast Indiana
• Are 16 years or older
• Have reliable transportation
• Receive a minimum score on an English language placement test. (An English for speakers of other languages instructor will be present in the classes to help with vocabulary.)

The Fort Wayne and Indianapolis campuses of Ivy Tech are the only two regions in the college to benefit from the grant. At Ivy Tech Northeast, two classes will be offered in spring 2014 and another two in summer 2014. After completing 16 weeks of classes and passing a state exam, students will earn another 12 credit hours and be eligible to enter the workforce as a CAN.
