The Culinary Program at Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast will open its weekly, student-managed deli on Sept. 12 on the Coliseum Campus (3800 N. Anthony Blvd.) The deli is named “Kelty’s Kafé” in memory of Chef Bob Kelty, who passed away in August 2011.
“Kelty’s Kafé” will offer a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads and desserts. The café will also offer comfort foods such as fried chicken, mac and cheese, chili, and chicken and noodles when the weather gets cooler.
The Bakery Merchandising course creates and manages a deli each semester on the Coliseum Campus (3800 N. Anthony Blvd.). Each student is assigned a week as head chef, and in this role, he or she will create a themed menu full of fresh and unique items. The students also plan the production schedule, prepare requisitions for food purchases, and calculate costs.
“Kelty’s Kafé” is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through the end of November. It is located in the Anthony Commons on Ivy Tech’s Coliseum Campus (3800 N. Anthony Blvd.) Depending on availability, the weekly menu will be posted on the Ivy Tech−Northeast calendar the Friday prior to deli offerings. Prices are very reasonable and an ever-changing selection of student creations will be available.
