Two TRIO students at Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne received scholarships from Indiana TRIO for the 2023-24 academic year. HninyuWin Kyawzin won the $1,000 Full-Time College Indiana TRIO Scholarship, and Rachel Geren received the $500 Textbook Scholarship. They were two of only nine students in Indiana who were awarded the college-level scholarships.
“Since I became a member of TRIO, I feel comfortable about my student life,” said Kyawzin. “I do not have to worry about using this resource if needed, and it’s also a chance to connect with peers. I always feel like TRIO is my second home since I got an opportunity to be in the program.”
TRIO Student Support Services’ mission is to provide services to 160 first-generation, low-income students with or without disabilities as they work toward a degree or certificate at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne, with a goal of achieving completion within a four-year period.

“TRIO programs leverage national and state financial aid dollars already on the table to provide the support that ensures student success,” said Beth Clemens, director of Ivy Tech Fort Wayne’s TRIO Student Support Services. “We are very proud of these TRIO students who went the extra mile in securing additional funding for their education.”
Is TRIO is a good fit for you?
Admission to TRIO is not a guarantee, it’s a privilege. Students who have been accepted into the program must also use certain services based on the College’s assessment of their needs. If you’re a student who has been away from school for awhile, a brand new student feeling unprepared for college, or a student unsure if they’ll succeed, TRIO may be the right place for you.
