Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast is introducing their new EMS Skills Lab at the
Public Safety Academy (7602 Patriot Crossing.) This lab will be used primarily by Ivy Tech’s Paramedic Science program to teach all skills of EMS training.
Newly purchased equipment for the lab includes an ambulance simulator, an ambulance cot and a patient simulation mannequin. The total cost of this equipment was approximately $115,000 and was funded by Perkins Grant money. The final installation and orientation of this equipment was completed in May. This equipment will allow students to simulate nearly any situation they would come in contact with as an EMT or paramedic.
“I am thrilled to add this equipment to the program. The addition of these items will give our students a distinct advantage over other EMS training programs that may only be able to discuss situations in a classroom,” said Matt Shady, instructor in Paramedic Science. “As we begin to implement more scenario-based learning, it is my hope that our students will be even more successful on their certification exams and ultimately be better prepared to enter their careers as confident and competent medics.”
