The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs awarded 10 years of continuing accreditation to the Medical Assisting Associate degree and certificate programs at Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast.

“This accreditation confirms that we are continuing to prepare students for a career in Medical Assisting at the highest level of competency and quality,” said Patty Ley, program chair of Medical Assisting.

The review, conducted by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Medical Assisting Education Review Board, recognizes the program’s compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards.

Reviewers cited several strengths of the program, including a resourceful program chair, involved  faculty, modern facilities and a knowledgeable practicum coordinator. The Medical Assisting program, located within the School of Health Sciences, received its initial accreditation in 1981. It was developed to meet ongoing local employment and education needs. Ivy Tech offers an Associate of Applied Science and a Technical Certificate in Medical Assisting.
