The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has again included Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast in its Vocational Education Leadership Training Program (VELT) and has arranged for five Chinese community college delegates to visit Ivy Tech, Nov. 28 through Dec. 2.

The visiting representatives are: Guancheng Wang, chairman of college council for Chongqing Industry Polytechnic College; Jianchuan Peng, chairman of college council for Karamay Vocational and Technical College; Guanglu Xing, vice president of Qingdao Technical College; Xingfu Hu, vice president of Sichuan College of Architectural Technology; and Xiaoming Li, assistant president of Hunan Vocational College of Science and Technology. They will be accompanied by Qian Li, interpreter and program coordinator for China Education Association for International Exchange.

The individuals will visit Ivy Tech–Northeast and meet with college administration, faculty, staff, students and community leaders during their stay. They will visit Ivy Tech’s facilities, including the Coliseum Campus, Student Life Center and The Steel Dynamics, Inc. Keith E. Busse Technology Center. Tours of regional manufacturing plants and businesses have been arranged to demonstrate Ivy Tech’s engagement and relationships with area businesses.

City of Fort Wayne Mayor Thomas C. Henry will formally welcome our guests to Fort Wayne, and the delegates will visit the Allen County Courthouse and the ACPL main library.

The Vocational Education Leadership Training Program (VELT) is financed by the Chinese government with the support of the Chinese Ministry of Education and jointly run under the supervision and administration of AACC and the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE).

The focus of the VELT program is to:

• Strengthen the leadership abilities and capabilities of Chinese college administrators
• Provide strategies to develop and improve market-oriented curriculum design
• Enhance teaching methods for Chinese vocational institutions
• Develop strong relationships with local businesses
