The Special Cuisines class at Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast invites the community to join its students, faculty, and staff for an Irish Dinner in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday March 17.

“We have recently seen the emergence of a new Irish cuisine based on traditional ingredients and preparations handled in new and exciting ways,” said Chef Jeff Bunting, course instructor and department chair of Hospitality Administration.

The Irish dinner is the first in the a la carte series of dinners for the Special Cuisines class, where guests order from a pre-set menu of appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, and desserts. The all inclusive price allows guests to enjoy foods from each course on the menu. Experience the unique flavors of Celtic cuisine by sampling from the following options.

  • Appetizer: Smoked Salmon on Irish Soda Bread Toast: Irish soda bread topped with smoked salmon, fresh dill and chives
  • Anraith (Soup): Bacon, Blue Cheese and Courgette Soup: Creamed potatoes, zucchini and onion topped with bacon and blue cheese
  • Sailéad (Salad): Spinach Salad with Pears: Spinach with Bosc pears, walnuts and cranberries in a light dressing
  • Entrée: Stuffed Chicken Breast: Chicken breast stuffed with apples and white pudding baked in cider
  • Miasa Taobh (Side Dishes): Colcannon: Mashed potatoes with cabbage; Orange Glazed Carrots: Tender whole carrots in a sweet orange sauce
  • Dessert: Grenoble Nut Tart: A rich caramel and nut tart

Dinners are open to the public. Cost is $20 per person, and reservations are taken for times between 5 and 6:30 p.m. on the evening of each dinner. Call the Special Cuisines line at 260-480-2002 to make a reservation.
