Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast, Diversity Affairs, and the Multicultural Student Organization will host “Achieving the Dream: A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration” on Thursday, Jan. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Student Life Center on the college’s North Campus (4900 St. Joe Road). The event is to honor King’s legacy.
The college is pleased that Richard A. Stevenson Sr., Wayne Township Trustee, will be the keynote speaker during the program portion of the celebration. Stevenson, a local community activist, was elected as trustee in 2006 and committed to serving those who are poor and at a disadvantage. He was named “Citizen of the Year” by the African/African-American Historical Museum.
The Pilgrim Baptist Church’s Young Adult Choir will also be featured during the daytime program. Chancellor Jerrilee Mosier and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Russell Baker will each speak briefly, as well.
Following the program portion of the celebration, a reception will be in the Student Commons. For additional information, contact Diana Jackson, Diversity Affairs and Multicultural Student Organization advisor, at 260-480-4115 or djackson@ivytech.edu.
