Official Presentation Set for 10:45 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010

The Ivy Tech Community College BUSN 105 – Principles of Management students will be presenting over one ton of food plus charitable monetary donations to Community Harvest Food Bank.  The official presentation will take place at 10:45 a.m. in the Chancellor’s Board Room on Ivy Tech’s Coliseum Campus. The donation is the end result of a class competition designed by Business and College for Working Adult (CWA) instructor, Patrick McCormick.

The class of eleven students was divided into two teams who have competed over the past few weeks to collect the most food for Community Harvest. The project was designed with The Apprentice concept to push the two teams to battle against each other just as businesses do every day in an attempt to gain market share. “I came up with the idea as a way to give students a hands-on approach to management, while helping to fulfill the Ivy Tech mission of serving the community,” said McCormick. “I chose Community Harvest as the recipient organization as they reach out to all counties that Ivy Tech serves in northeast Indiana; they are highly respected in the community and are in constant need of the community’s support.”

Each team designed their own strategies for the project. One team worked with Holy Cross Elementary School. The other team used techniques such as door-to-door solicitation. Both teams will make a 15-20 minute presentation detailing their strategy and end result, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Chancellor’s Board Room.  The winning team will be announced just before the official presentation to Community Harvest.
