Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast and Huntington University have formed a new partnership to provide community classroom space for Ivy Tech classes beginning in January at Huntington University’s Columbia City EXCEL Adult Degree Programs site. Huntington’s facility at 220 Frontage Road, Columbia City, hosts the university’s EXCEL program in the evenings, but will allow Ivy Tech to run daytime classes Monday through Friday. The site recently has been remodeled allowing for three, newly upgraded classrooms. In exchange for allowing Ivy Tech classes to run during the daytime, Ivy Tech has supplied the Columbia City site with new computer and media equipment, including two SMART boards.

The partnership is designed to not only expand upon Huntington and Ivy Tech’s current academic partnerships – the two colleges currently have transfer agreements – but to also better serve the residents of Whitley County who wish to take Ivy Tech and Huntington classes closer to home.

Ivy Tech will start the spring semester at the newly renovated Huntington location by offering two daytime academic skills advancement math courses: Essentials of Algebra I that meets from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and Fundamentals of Algebra I that meets on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m.-1:20 p.m.

Ivy Tech Chancellor, Dr. Jerrilee Mosier stated, “The partnership with Huntington University allows Ivy Tech Community College to expand our course offerings in community locations that will serve more residents of Northeast Indiana, and help us further our mission of changing lives and making Indiana great.”

“When institutions of higher education partner together in a community, it demonstrates the highest ideals of both education and community,” said Rick Upchurch, Director of the EXCEL program at Huntington University.  “I’m proud that Huntington University and Ivy Tech Community College have decided to work together for the benefit of the residents of Columbia City and Whitley County.”
