Monday, November 8, and Tuesday, November 9, 2010, Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast’s Chancellor Jerrilee K. Mosier, Ed.D., and the School of Business will host three representatives from the country of France to discuss a potential educational and cultural immersion of French students in Fort Wayne and at Ivy Tech–Northeast.

Ivy Tech–Northeast has an opportunity to host up to 15 students organized through the University of Lille’s SKEMA Business School (Lille, France). During the visit, Ivy Tech will meet with the Chancellor and the Regional Board of Trustees, tour the campus and downtown Fort Wayne, visit a few industry employers, meet with academic advisory board members, and visit potential student housing options.

Mahamouda Salouhou, Ph.D. and professor of International Business at the SKEMA Business School, recently contacted Chancellor Mosier to investigate a partnership with Ivy Tech–Northeast. With Salouhou will be two representatives from French government that deal specifically with workforce development, training, and employment of citizens – with a large focus on youth and young adults.

“This is a great opportunity for Ivy Tech to extend our outreach in partnerships beyond our nation’s borders,” said Chancellor Jerrilee K. Mosier. “Visiting students will be able to experience U.S. business culture right here in northeast Indiana.”

If chosen to host the exchange visitors, they would live in Fort Wayne for a period of three months and attend Ivy Tech–Northeast with plans to participate in an intensive English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) curriculum through the college’s Workforce and Economic Development (WED) division, as well as to study United States business culture through approved coursework and certification programs while also visiting northeast Indiana companies. A proper mix of education and practical engagement will demonstrate how individuals work and will provide possible job shadowing opportunities. The college’s WED will be coordinating students’ visits to area industry employers as well as coordinating instruction in the classroom with the School of Business.
