The Safety Exposition is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held in the gymnasium. This expo will feature booths and information from such organizations as the YWCA, Center for Non-Violence, St. Joseph Hospital’s Burn & Wound Center, Lutheran Health Network’s Sleep Center, Lutheran Health Network’s Trauma Prevention Services, S.C.A.N., Allen County Sheriff’s Department, IPFW Community Counseling, Catholic Charities, IPFW Security, Indiana State Police, Parkview Hospital, the American Red Cross, F.W.P.D., among many others.

Chris Garrett, DOL Grant Coordinator/Project Consultant for the Workforce and Economic Development division of Ivy Tech and Chair of the Domestic Violence Awareness committee, said, “The Safety Exposition will provide a venue to distribute material on all types of safety issues along with agencies available to support victims of domestic violence.”

The Survivors’ Celebration will follow from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Those in attendance will hear testimony from Ivy Tech faculty, staff, and students who have survived domestic violence.

Miss Indiana and Domestic Violence Advocate, Gabrielle Reed, will be the keynote speaker. Guests will enjoy light refreshments and have the opportunity to participate in a commemorative event to honor all victims and survivors of domestic violence.

“We look forward to hearing from Miss Indiana who has made it her mission to elevate the rights of victims of domestic violence as well as to support them through the experience,” stated Garrett.

Ivy Tech Community College Chancellor, Jerrilee K. Mosier, said, “The events in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month provide the college with opportunities to inform our students and staff as well as to partner with community agencies on a very important topic.”

In addition to the day’s events, Ivy Tech Community College will be permanently posting community resource information throughout campus for those students and staff who may need assistance and have not yet taken the first step.

The Safety Exposition and Survivors’ Celebration are free and open to the public.
