Ivy Tech Community College is hosting its third annual student scholarship ride on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The event is a ride including vehicles of all kinds, from all over the state of Indiana, in a caravan to Hoosier Park Racing and Casino in Anderson, Indiana. Thunder Run encourages participants to ride from all Ivy Tech regions meeting up for a common cause – to raise money for student scholarships through the Ivy Tech Foundation. In 2008, the ride began as an initiative from Ivy Tech’s Northeast region in Fort Wayne, and in 2009, it became a statewide Ivy Tech Foundation event.

Everyone is welcome! Bring your friends and family. You do not need to be an Ivy Tech student or employee to participate. For just a $10 contribution per person to the Foundation, participants receive a $15 food voucher and a $15 casino voucher from Hoosier Park Racing and Casino (must have arm band to participate; must be 21 or older to enter the casino or receive food and casino vouchers).

This year, Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne will honor the first responders in our community with a brief ceremony on September 11 to thank them for choosing a profession that keeps us safe and gives us security knowing they are there at a moment’s notice.

As we honor our heroes on September 11, the net proceeds raised for student scholarships in the Northeast region will be earmarked specifically for students training to work in these professions. Ivy Tech trains paramedics, fire science investigators, criminal justice workers, and other public safety-related professions. This will also include veterans of our military, particularly those who have expired VA benefits.

Participating regions across the state will have various staging and departure times, depending on distance. Arrival at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino for everyone is scheduled at Noon.
