Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast and Charis House will announce on Tuesday, August 24 at 11:30 a.m., a new partnership to provide community classroom space for Ivy Tech classes beginning this Fall. The announcement to the media will be held at the Charis House, 431 Fairmount Place, 46808 (off of Wells Street). The new facility allows for a classroom that holds 19 computers, printer, and teacher station supplied by Ivy Tech.
The first class being offered in this space begins the week of August 23 and is an academic skills advancement course that emphasizes life and success tools for incoming students, an all-encompassing course that can ultimately benefit any student. Classes offered at this location are open to residents at Charis House as well as all Ivy Tech students. The college hopes to add other introductory level courses as well as those that promote keyboarding and computer skill sets.
Charis House provides another convenient location for students in the Fort Wayne area. The new facility is located downtown between Ivy Tech’s North and South campuses. The goal of the partnership is not only to provide another convenient class location for students, but to work specifically with Charis House in incorporating higher education into the life goals of their residents.
Rules and guidelines have been outlined in the Ivy Tech Community Campus Resource Guide for faculty and students to ensure added protection and confidentiality at this location.
Dr. Russ Baker, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Ivy Tech Community College stated, “Ivy Tech is really excited to be part of a partnership with Charis House, an organization that shares our dedication to changing lives. We can’t wait to see Charis House residents and other Ivy Tech students taking classes in this location that will help put them on a path toward a more promising future.”
“This partnership enables us to contribute to the community and exemplifies our hope that Charis House will provide a place for transformation through faith and learning.”
Pastor Patty Crisp, Director of Transformational Ministries, Rescue Ministries.
