Joan B. McNagny to receive Honorary Degree
in College and Community Service
Michael J. Packnett, President and CEO of Parkview Health, will be the Commencement Speaker at Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast’s 40th annual Commencement Ceremonies onFriday, May 7, 2010. The Commencement Ceremonies will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
Packnett joined Parkview Health as President and CEO in June 2006. He oversees the not-for-profit healthcare system that employs more than 7,000 employees. Parkview is the largest employer in northeast Indiana. Packnett has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma and a master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota.
Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast will award degrees and certificates to 833 graduates in the class of 2010. The diplomas will represent newly acquired expertise in Business, Education, Technology, Public and Social Services, Health Sciences, and Liberal Arts and Sciences. The graduates will receive the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degrees as well as various certificates.
Awards to be presented at graduation include: the Sample Award for Excellence in Instruction, to an outstanding instructor; and the Melvin L. Curtis Award for Academic Excellence, to a superior member of the graduating class.
For the first time, Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast will award an honorary degree to Ms. Joan McNagny. The degree will be an associate of science in College and Community Service. Ms. McNagny was present at the signing of the bill authorizing Indiana Vocational Technical College, the precursor to Ivy Tech Community College. She was appointed to the State Board of Trustees and chaired that body in 1979-80. She and her husband Bill started the Glenn Sample Award, which was first awarded in 1980. McNagny has also served on the Ivy Tech Foundation. From 1974 to 2009 she served as a Director on the Foundation Board. In 2009, she was appointed to and remains on, the Foundation Board as Director Emerita.
