Maria Tsakova, assistant professor of writing at Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast, will speak about her life in communist Bulgaria as part of Women’s History Month. Her presentation will be on Thursday, March 18  in the Student Life Center Conference Center from 5-7 p.m. (including a question and answer session).

Tsakova will present information about her life in communist Bulgaria. She will read from her upcoming book, History and I Have Never Been Good Friends: Breaking the Iron Curtain, and talk about how the dictatorial regime affected her life and the lives of others.

Tsakova is an ethnic Macedonian from Bulgaria, where she and her family were opponents to the communist government. She managed to get out of Bulgaria and came to Fort Wayne in 1989, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, and she has worked as a writer, editor, and instructor ever since.

The presentation is free and open to the public.
