Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast, the Office of Diversity Affairs, and the Multicultural Student Organization will celebrate Black History Month on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an event titled “A Celebration of Diversity” at the Student Life Center on the North Campus (4900 St. Joe Rd.).
Renetta H. Williams, executive director of HealthVisions–Fort Wayne, will be the keynote speaker. Williams has successfully developed HealthVisions into a thriving organization that works to reduce health disparities in Allen County, and she exemplifies the organization’s values in action in working within the community by helping those in need. Williams was hired in 2000 as the Director of Outreach Service, and in 2002 was promoted to executive director.
Other activities:
- A special guest appearance by Condra Ridley (retired employee of Allen County Public Library, 27 years). She lends her skills as a spellbinding storyteller extraordinaire and is an organizer to a host of cultural events in the community.
- Food with a theme of “A Taste of Soul” will be provided.
- A variety of music will decorate the background (R&B, Jazz, Blues, African Music).
- Snider High School’s Steppers will perform a step dance. Snider’s team was crowned winners of the 2010 South Side High School Show Down.
- The documentary “America Beyond the Color Line” will be shown.
- The movie “Amistad” will be shown.
