Appalachian Trail record holder and author coming to northeast Indiana Sept. 16-17 for Ivy Tech INSPIRE Event

Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast is welcoming Jennifer Pharr Davis, Appalachian INSPIRE AcademyTrail record holder and author, to speak on Sept. 16 and 17. At events on both days, she will speak about life on the trail and her record-setting hike. This is part of a series of events provided by Ivy Tech’s  INSPIRE Academy.

Sept. 16

2 p.m. at the Tom and Jane Dustin Nature Preserve (1802 Champman Road, Huntertown, Ind.)

An optional hike will follow the presentation. The event is taking place with the help of Acres Land Trust.  It is free and open to the public. Space is limited. To reserve a seat, call the Arbor Acres Land Trust office at 260-637-2273.

Sept. 17

3-4:30 p.m. in  Ivy Tech’s Coliseum Campus Auditorium (3800 N. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, Ind.)

This event is free and open to the public.

Pharr Davis has hiked over 11,000 miles of long distance trails across six continents. She currently holds endurance records on the Appalachian Trail, Long Trail and Bibbulmun Track. She is the first woman to be the overall record holder on the Appalachian Trail. Her record-setting hike of the 2,181-mile trail took 46 days, 11 hours and 20 minutes – an average of 46.9 miles per day.

In 2005, Pharr Davis founded Blue Ridge Hiking Co. She has appeared in the Sunday edition of the New York Times; and on national television and radio shows such as CNN Headline News, the CBS Early Show, and NPR’s Talk of the Nation. Pharr Davis was named a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year and voted UltraRunning Magazine’s top female performance of 2011. She has also authored four books, including three North Carolina guidebooks and her hiking memoir: Becoming Odyssa.
