Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast Chancellor and student honored with regional and national awards

Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast Chancellor Jerrilee K. Mosier was awarded the Most Outstanding College Administrator Award from the Indiana Region of Phi Theta Kappa for 2011. Mosier was nominated by the officers of the Alpha Tau Xi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Each year, Phi Theta Kappa chapters are given the opportunity to recognize one of their college’s administrators for his or her support of and dedication to Phi Theta Kappa and their campus’s chapter.

Mosier has shown support and encouragement for the Alpha Tau Xi chapter since she came to Ivy Tech−Northeast by meeting with the officer teams and attending the fall 2011 induction ceremony as a special guest. Her nomination was the chapter’s way of showing their gratitude.

Jessica Gadson, a student in Early Childhood Education at Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast, received a 2012 Newman Civic Fellows Award. Campus Compact has honored 162 students from 32 states as 2012 Newman Civic Fellows. The awards recognize inspiring college student leaders who have worked to find solutions for challenges facing their communities. Faculty member and Phi Theta Kappa advisor Deanna Surfus nominated Gadson for the award.

As an officer in her chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, Gadson organized a Relay for Life team, raising over $600 for the American Cancer Society. She also had the chapter sponsor two women’s self-defense classes in conjunction with the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, and coordinated a Valentines-for-the-Troops event through the Fort Wayne Veterans Affairs office. Her current projects include collecting donations for local animal shelters and the American Cancer Society.
